Poplar & Tower Hamlets
Glenkerry House is situated on the Brownfield Estate in Poplar, just north of the Isle of Dogs, east of Limehouse and south of Bow. Within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, it’s a short hop from Bethnal Green and a brief rail trip to the Tower of London, the halfway point between the East End and the docklands. Though you’d be hard pressed to call it an area of natural beauty, it’s clean, friendly and graced with a lot of open space, and is currently in the midst of a huge regeneration project.
It’s a 15-minute walk or a short DLR ride to West India Quay with its bars, pubs, restaurants, Cineworld multiplex and the Museum in Docklands, and one more stop to Canary Wharf, with its plentiful restaurants and shopping opportunities. Head in the opposite direction and you’ll find yourself in Stratford, the travel hub of East London, including Stratford International station, the Olympic Park and, of course, Westfield Stratford. We are also within 15 minutes walk of Canary Wharf and Bromley-By-Bow tube stations. From December 2018 there will also be a Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) station at Canary Wharf/West India Quay giving direct links to Abbey Wood in South-East London and Paddington and beyond to Reading in the West. There is also the DLR to City Airport and Woolwich Arsenal both via Poplar.
Closer to home, Christle’s Mini-Market, situated right on our doorstep, is a useful one-stop shop for groceries, while nearby Chrisp Street hosts an eclectic outdoor market, a Co-op supermarket and Iceland store, a library, a medical centre, dental surgery, several furniture outlets, a post office, credit union and just about everything else you might need. Just round the corner, East India Dock Road is home to a large number of restaurants and take-away outlets as well as a bank.
